About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a qualified Veterinary Nurse to provide nursing and technical assistance with clinical and emergency cases presented to the small animal hospital.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • assist clinicians and veterinary interns with treatments, prepare and assist with surgeries and clinical procedures

  • handle telephone and face-to-face enquiries, basic triage, and admission of patients

  • clean and maintain clinical  spaces

  • sterilise instruments and equipment, prepare and pack surgical kits

  • maintain stock including ordering of consumables and procurement of supplies, and control of stock quantities.

The small animal service at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) operates in:

  • a general small animal veterinary practice

  • wide range of all medical and surgical problems

  • second opinion cases.

As well as providing gold standard general practice, the small animal service provides an invaluable teaching experience for our final year veterinary interns. Clients attending the service will often have a brief initial

consultation with one of our interns followed by a thorough examination by one of our experienced supervising

veterinarians, who will oversee all veterinary activities performed at the hospital. This gives our interns a great

opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the added benefit of having all their findings verified by our

experienced clinicians.
