About the Role
This is a tremendous developmental opportunity for a new or relatively recent veterinary graduate. Working with established Mackinnon veterinarians and other staff at the Melbourne Veterinary School, the appointee will participate in on-farm clinical services, consultancy and research projects, while also undergoing training across the key areas of flock and herd clinical service and consultancy.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Participate in clinical services provided by the Mackinnon Group and provide excellent service to patients and clients
- Help prepare funding applications for group learning, consultancy and research projects, including proposals for corporate clients
- Participate in farmer and industry group extension activities and other research projects
- Contribute to DVM student practicals and other classes overseen by the Mackinnon Group and Production Animal academic staff
Who We Are Looking For
We’re looking for someone who demonstrates a commitment to excellence in building their veterinary career and a desire to make a difference to Australian livestock and the industry as a whole.
You will also have:
- An awarded Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree enabling registration with the Victorian Veterinary Board
- Proven knowledge of and experience in the Australian sheep and beef cattle industries, including management systems and pasture production
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high-level interpersonal skills, demonstrated by the ability to liaise effectively and relate well to a wide range of people in various situation and work successfully in teams
- Commitment to excellence in, and capacity to deliver effective teaching to students

The Mackinnon Project , based at the University of Melbourne’s Veterinary School at Werribee, is a recognised leader in providing advisory and training services to the sheep and beef cattle industries of south-eastern Australia.
