The Future Industries Institute (FII) was established with a completely new research culture in mind – one deeply engaged with industry, with the end goal of supporting state and national research and economic development priorities to drive economic growth in Australia. The Institute represents UniSA’s largest single investment in research and builds on the significant capability, infrastructure and reputation of the University’s existing research strengths and substantial research infrastructure.

Augmented by a major strategic partnership with University College London’s (UCL) Faculty of Engineering, FII undertakes global research, inspired by real world issues. The University values the diversity of its staff and proactively promotes opportunities for outstanding female researchers.

Research Fellowships

A partnership between Santos, University College London (UCL) Engineering and UniSA will provide for Research Fellowships for two female researchers, to be located in UniSA’s Future Industries Institute. The projects to be undertaken by the Research Fellows will be defined collaboratively with Santos. Collaboration on projects with UCL Engineering is strongly encouraged.

University College London (UCL), Santos and the University of South Australia (UniSA) are proud to offer two, industry focused, women only Fellowships, in alignment with our shared research ambitions in the following fields:

  • Environment: towards a net zero environmental footprint
  • Smart Energy: low complexity energy conversion/integration & storage solutions for remote areas
  • A Digital Future: including advanced digital technologies supporting industry 4.0, such as data analytics, IoT, machine learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • The investment in these positions underpins the shared ambitions of the partners to further develop world class, industry focused research in South Australia. The partnership between UCL, Santos and UniSA commenced in 2017 when the first round of women only Fellowships were offered under this scheme. UniSA has a strong commitment to addressing the systemic barriers to women’s career advancement, and these scholarships seek to help address this in what are traditionally male dominated fields. Successful candidates will receive a modest annual support package as well as a fully funded PhD scholarship.
