Are you excited about student equity and fairness in Australian universities? Are you keen to play a role in reshaping how Australian universities serve the nation and contribute to prosperity and social inclusion? The Australian Centre for Student Equity and success (ACSES) is a nationally reputed centre that has significant influence in providing leadership and facilitating research in student equity across the Australian higher education sector. ACSES’s initiatives connect research, policy, and practice to increase the successful participation of disadvantaged and marginalised groups in higher education.
The Centre is undertaking a major pivot towards a greater focus on trialling and evaluating equity initiatives as a key part of building the evidence base and leadership capability of universities. This will provide informed advice to policy stakeholders, decision-makers and practitioners alike. The Trials and Evaluation (T&E) program also works closely with the Centre’s Research and Data programs. With the Australian Government’s response to the Universities Accord now underway, this is an exciting and opportune moment to really make a difference.
Your new role
As the Director of the Trials and Evaluation Program, you will be working closely with the ACSES Director and will be primarily responsible for the robust design and execution of equity-focused trials and of the evaluation of existing and new student equity projects in accordance with the ACSES strategic plan.
As a key ‘outward face’ of ACSES, you will implement cross-institutional partnerships to position the Centre at the forefront of equity implementation and translation of research into practice.
Working collaboratively and efficiently with stakeholders across the operational functions of ACSES, notably the Data and Research Program teams, you will ensure the delivery of successful outcomes through the regular and rigorous collection of student equity data and trial impact measurement. You will facilitate the identification of data solutions that will serve to establish baselines and report on the impact of interventions and policies according to key metrics. You will consult with the Research Program team to ensure the appropriate systems are in place to optimise the outcomes of current research projects in the student equity field.
You will provide leadership and mentoring to the Trials and Evaluation group and foster a work environment of high achievement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
We are looking for someone with…
- A postgraduate qualification in an education or policy related field
- Exposure to, or the ability to develop and lead, trials and evaluation projects across complex, multi-institutional environments.
- A strong track record in translating, disseminating, and converting research outcomes to achieve best practices.
- An entrepreneurial mindset and with strong problem solving and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior management and maintain rewarding partnerships with stakeholders.
- A creative and flexible approach to finding and championing new ways to bring about institutional change supported by evidence and best practice.
- Experience with RCTs and experimental evaluation studies and practice -Desirable
