About the Role
The Trial Coordinator works in a research team led by Professor David Berlowitz, based at Austin Health and the Institute for Breathing and Sleep. This research team examines sleep and breathing dysfunction in neuromuscular disease across a range of disorders including spinal cord injury and motor neurone disease/amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The research encompasses epidemiology and cohort studies, sleep and respiratory discovery experiments, upper-limb rehabilitation, controlled clinical trials, disease registry development, health systems research, health data analytics, and implementation science.

Under the direction of Professor Berlowitz, the Trial Coordinator will be an integral part of the team driving a cutting-edge program of research investigating the restoration of respiratory and upper limb function following spinal cord injury. The successful candidate will be involved in trial management, participant recruitment, data collection, analysis and the preparation of publications and presentations. This position presents an opportunity to be at the forefront of innovative therapies that can make a difference to people living with spinal cord injuries.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Participating in research activities independently and as a member of the collaborative research team
• Directing the day-to-day operation of the research project to ensure timely execution
• Co-ordinating participant recruitment and engagement
• Assisting with the conduct of the clinical trial including data collection

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a candidate who has strong organisation and project management skills, able to coordinate competing priorities and liaise with stakeholders at all levels to ensure deadlines are met. You must be familiar with trial management and with the submission of ethics applications, however, additional training above your pre-existing knowledge can be provided to the right candidate.. Your experience in upper limb neurological rehabilitation will be essential to your success in this role and you are no stranger to visiting participants in home to set up equipment and deliver therapy. Your strong interpersonal skills will enable you to forge effective working relationships, and your communication skills will enable you to relay technical information to all audiences in easy to understand language.

You will also have:

• Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, or similar, with post-graduate upper-limb rehabilitation and/or health systems research expertise.
• Experience in the day-to-day running of research activities (PhD highly desired)
• Demonstrated knowledge of Good Clinical Practice requirements and adherence to the ICH-GP and WHO guidelines
• High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite.
