About This Opportunity  

The University of Queensland (UQ) and Thapar Institution of Engineering and Technology (TIET) in Patiala, India, have established a strategic partnership and are now seeking an expert in Computer Science: known locally as The TIET-UQ Chair in Data Science.

The Chair will be a goal-oriented person who has initiative and drive to leverage opportunities and ideally already has international experience.

As an influential member of both universities, the Chair will have the exciting opportunity to establish a Centre of Excellence in the area of data science, computer science, AI, machine learning or computer engineering at TIET in close collaboration with UQ.

With incredible support from both universities, you will join a strong team of researchers and domain experts, play a pivotal role in determining future research strategy, build up highly effective research teams in both India and Australia. The Chair will foster and develop collaboration with industry and government partners, leading to joint international initiatives and funding.

The Chair will spend 70% of their time annually at The University of Queensland and 30% of their time at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

About You

We are actively seeking an extraordinary individual who holds a PhD in Computer Science or related discipline, and boasts a remarkable track record of excellence in both teaching and research.

Internationally recognized in their field, proficiency in developing and leading strategic research agendas, coupled with a proven ability to secure and manage substantial external research funding, is a must.

The candidate should showcase successful international collaborations, particularly in Australia and India. With a talent for delivering top-notch teaching across various levels and settings, including undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate, the candidate excels in course coordination and curriculum development.

A stellar record of supervising Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion, combined with a history of impactful internal leadership roles, underscores their exceptional contributions on both national and international fronts.

What We Can Offer  

This position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment at Academic Level E at The University of Queensland, for a period of five years with the potential to extend.

The Chair will spend 30% of their time annually at TIET in Patiala, India. Accommodation for the extended stays will be provided for the candidate.

An attractive remuneration and strategic start up package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The full-time equivalent Level E base salary will start from $200,200.63 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will start from $234,234.74 per annum.

The University will meet all reasonable removal and establishment expenses. In the case of an interstate or international appointee, an accommodation allowance may be available for a limited period.
