About the Role
We are seeking a Terrestrial Archaeology Technical Officer to provide timely, high-level laboratory and equipment maintenance support to the staff and students within the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
Utilising your laboratory management experience, you will be responsible for:
Managing the archaeology field and laboratory equipment by ensuring all the equipment is stored, maintained, and serviced in accordance with internal policies and legislative requirements. This includes keeping up-to-date and accurate records for both servicing and loans registers.
Training and educating staff and students on the safe and effective use of laboratories and equipment, including safety inductions.
Managing and maintaining relevant Work Health and Safety requirements such as inductions, chemical handling, registration, and licensing of applicable equipment and ensuring safe work procedures are adhered to.
Providing technical support to staff and students relating to field and laboratory teaching and research and the Digital Archaeology Lab (DAL).
Ensuring storage and curation of artefacts in the research collection is in accordance with internal policy, state and national guidelines, current legislation and ethics permits.
About You
A highly organised individual, you will utilise these skills to prioritise your workload and ensure the field and laboratory equipment is managed effectively. You will have strong attention to detail to ensure Work Health and Safety requirements are prioritised and managed in accordance with legislation, and accurate records are maintained.
The successful candidate will also possess:
Completion of a diploma or degree qualification in a relevant field OR an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
Ability to troubleshoot faults with the field and laboratory equipment and determine when an external provider is required.
Demonstrated experience in laboratory management.
Familiarity with archaeological photography, laboratory, fieldwork and/or survey techniques.
Experience and an understanding of managing work health and safety requirements will be highly regarded.
Competent in using Microsoft Office applications and databases.
