  • Responsible for managing continuous improvement and delivery of business intelligence, analytical and data visualisation services for the Central Operations Services (COS) team at the University of Sydney

  • Starting base salary from $127K plus generous 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The Technology Lead - Data Visualisation and Insights is a great opportunity to combine your hands-on experience in developing sophisticated business intelligence, visualisations and insights to the internal customer brief, as well as gaining leadership experience and exposure to senior management. This role will act as 2nd in charge to the Senior Manager, Data Visualisation and Insights, as well as leading complex internal BI assignments requiring extensive stakeholder engagement, and providing peer coaching and support for the Business Analytics team.

The Data Visualisation and Insights team are responsible for managing continous improvement of business intelligence, analytical and data visualisation services within COS and facilitating sustainable organisational and strategic change within the University. This includes collating information from multiple sources, designing new reporting, creating data visualisations that build understanding and insight, identification and mapping of ‘as is’ and ‘to be’ business processes, discussing data with internal SME’s to build commentary, developing dashboards and preparing reports for COS senior management reporting as well as support of improved operational outcomes as well as projects and initiatives.

This role will also ensure timely delivery of these services through the efficient and effective management, allocation and prioritisation of limited resources across multiple tasks and projects.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • providing 2IC leadership to manage analytical and visualisation services for COS that provide insight and reporting on COS BAU operations, key drivers, strategic priorities, projects and initiatives, and continuous improvement

  • stakeholder engagement to design and build useful analysis and reporting that supports good business decision making and outcomes

  • managing the identification, analysis and documentation of relevant processes required to support business process improvements

  • to use data visualisation and analysis techniques to support performance management and KPI reporting for major supplier contracts

  • to oversee and manage Process Mapping Analysis and Improvements as required for specific projects

  • to develop, maintain, and manage a high-quality Data Management System for SE&I, ensuring integrity and best practice management of underlying data sources; high quality documentation, and make recommendations on the most effective systems and data-base design to support this function

  • to grow the reach of the function to support and enable a broader range of teams across COS

  • providing team leadership and mentoring, championing a high engagement, high performance and customer focused culture within the team

  • to build and manage senior client/user relationships as a trusted business adviser.

About you

  • relevant tertiary qualifications in business, finance, management accounting and data analysis

  • certified Practitioner in Business Analysis (IIBA or PMP) well regarded

  • experience in Power BI, Tableau or equivalent is required, as well as advanced SQL

  • relevant and extensive experience consolidating and organizing analysis to create and prepare reports / documentation / dashboards to clearly present this data and insights in a way that is engaging, concise, and supports leaders in their decision making and management practice

  • excellent internal stakeholder and consulting skills, with an ability to analyse problems and issues, conduct research and analysis, and develop alternative recommendations and solutions

  • demonstrated ability to plan, develop, analyse, implement, evaluate, and adapt strategic initiatives in a complex organisational environment

  • demonstrated experience in data management technologies and data governance, including genuine curiosity to ‘understand the business and its drivers’, the ability to work with large amounts of information from a diverse range of sources, and the ability to connect concepts and see the ‘bigger picture’

  • sound judgement, accuracy, and attention to detail

  • demonstrated experience in the leadership, supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff

  • excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities to achieve deadlines and required outcomes.
