Your new role
In your new role of Technical Specialist, Structural Dynamics – Civil Engineering, you will provide specialised scientific and/or highly technical support and technical leadership in teaching and/or research programs which involve the operation and maintenance of highly specialised equipment and/or the provision specialist scientific or technical skills.

You will need to have extensive experience and knowledge in testing complex engineering properties of construction materials with the ability to process and analyse data.

You will play an important role in ensuring that occupational health and safety regulations and specific statutory requirements related to the area’s activities are followed.

Essential criteria
In addition to the below, please refer to the linked duty statement for area specific responsibilities.

  • A degree qualification (preferably honours) in a Civil Engineering with considerable relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • A high level of discipline specific knowledge and considerable experience in relevant scientific/research methods, techniques and protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, training and instruction to others within an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to ensuring, Occupational Safety and Health practices and regulations are followed.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff and students at all levels, as well as the ability effectively communicate information and provide instruction others.
  • Demonstrated effective written communication skills with the ability to produce documents, correspondence, records, instructions and procedures which are clear, accurate and concise and which are of a complex scientific nature.
  • Demonstrated commitment to participate in up skilling programs and professional development to ensure operational and technical knowledge is consistent with continuing developments in professional practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post-graduate qualifications in Civil Engineering.
  • Previous experience in the higher education sector
  • Previous experience in testing complex properties of construction materials on large specimens eg beams, columns and slabs.
