About Health and Medical Research Building

At the beginning of 2022, construction commenced on the $255 million Flinders Health and Medical Research Building (FHMRB). Due to open in the first quarter of 2024, the FHMRB will enable researchers, practitioners and industry partners to work together more closely than ever before, creating a hub of collaboration within southern Adelaide’s own biomedical research precinct. Located adjacent to Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Private Hospital, it will be the focal point of research informed by genuine patient need, positioned to make an immediate improvement to people’s health and wellbeing. 


About the Role

Under broad direction, the Technical Research Support Manager will provide leadership, management and strategic direction to the Technical Service Research Support Teams in the College of Medicine and Public Health. This includes wet laboratory support within the Health and Medical Research Building, Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC) and Health Sciences Building. The Manager is responsible for developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure that operations with the research support teams are appropriately resourced, meet all demands and continually improved. This position will work closely with researchers to be the key conduit that links research requirements with operational delivery of strategy.

The Manager Technical Research Support will provide strong people leadership, supervision and proactively manage overall staff performance within the Research Technical Services Team.


About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • A Postgraduate qualification with relevant experience or extensive management experience and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Demonstrated extensive experience of managing a wet laboratory research facility and working with a broad range of core specialist equipment supporting research including tissue culture and controlled environments.

  • Proven ability to function as an effective member of the senior management team.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high level written material including reports, guidelines, policies and/or other workplace documents.

  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills, including self-direction and the ability to achieve numerous work functions concurrently.

  • Demonstrated experience in workplace health and safety, biosafety and biosecurity in line with the WHS, Gene Technology & DAFF legislative requirements.
