  • Base salary from $95,860 plus 17% superannuation  

About the opportunity    

The Technical Officer will work in Westmead, the centre of transformational health services, research and education in Western Sydney, internationally recognised for its depth and scale of expertise. Here the Technical Officer will support the delivery of timely and effective technical services within the simulation/teaching facilities within the Westmead Innovation Centre (WIC) to achieve enhanced education outcomes. This includes ensuring day-to-day hands-on support in the simulation hospital wards, where a variety of nursing, medical, dentistry and allied profession practical classes are run. The Technical Officer will provide technical advice to users on simulation equipment, complete the sourcing and preparation of consumables, perform maintenance on specialist medical equipment, and assist in the production of writing safety and procedural documentation.

The Technical Officer will assist in implementing new processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working within the work area to improve customer service delivery, efficiency and resource utilisation as directed. The Technical Officer will provide training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, facilities and general procedures. The role will also support the Senior Technical Officer in ensuring that WHS and other compliance requirements of the work area are met.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • support the agreed delivery of technical services in the simulation teaching spaces
  • support the Senior Technical Officer in planning and managing resources (e.g equipment, consumables, services, etc.) and ensuring that critical teaching priorities are met
  • support the delivery of training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, facilities, and general procedures
  • support the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the area of responsibility 
  • help promote a positive, professional, customer-focused team culture 
  • help support the effective utilisation of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring that the work area’s education requirements are effectively met 
  • champion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk management 
  • look for opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of others
  • provide project management or project support as required, collaborating with other TSS, PSU or central project managers/teams as required


About you: 

  • a degree in the relevant discipline or equivalent experience working in teaching medical simulation environments or laboratories
  • an enthusiasm for service delivery within the clinical education setting
  • strong team ethic and relationship building ability
  • strong communication skills and an ability to maintain positive client interface 
  • fitness ability to do manual lifting as required
  • working knowledge of WHS
  • ability to prioritise work to ensure the efficient delivery of teaching classes.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
