About the Job

The Agricultural Machinery Research and Design Centre (AMRDC) carry out targeted research projects and provide consultancy services focussing on delivering improved machinery solutions to farmers and addressing broad engineering requirements of the agricultural (particularly cropping) and food industry.

The Technical Officer: Research works collaboratively with AMRDC research staff, industry and project partners to support agricultural engineering focused research activities. The position provides mechanical expertise and practical support to design and adapt equipment and conducts a wide range of tailored mechanical assemblies from specialised manufacturing drawings or sketches. In addition, the Technical Officer: Research undertakes and oversees the safe and effective operation of machinery and equipment and has responsibilities for day to day management and coordination of the AMRDC workshop and laboratory areas.

Skills and Experience

For success in this position you will be post-secondary qualified or have demonstrated equivalent experience in a relevant mechanical construction/maintenance or diesel mechanic discipline. You will demonstrate significant experience in a sector such as agriculture, horticulture or viticulture with proven experience in the construction of a wide range of mechanical assemblies.

General workshop skills including welding, cutting and lathing together with demonstrated knowledge of HS&IM requirements in a workshop are important. Your ability to work cooperatively and communicate with a diverse range of internal and external parties will be key to your success. Preference will be given to applicants with Forklift and Heavy Rigid Truck Licence.
