Chronos is based around an Ionplus MICADAS (Mini Carbon Dating System) accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS). The facility was developed in collaboration with researchers at ANSTO and is in a state-of-the-art purpose-built laboratory at the Kensington Campus of UNSW, part of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre . The facility includes equipment for chemical sample preparation, graphitisation for AMS dating, and stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS).
The facility provides analytical research support to researchers at UNSW, within Australia and in institutions internationally, as welk as commercial radiocarbon analysis to archaeological consulting companies and industry.
