Your new role

As a Technical Coordinator, you will manage the Faculty's biological safety responsibilities and play an advisory role within the faculty.

You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with gene technology, microbiological and biosecurity legislation and facilitating audits with external regulators, liaising as necessary with all relevant stakeholders.

There will be substantial engagement with the School of Molecular Life Sciences and the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Your clients will include Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM), Trace and Environmental DNA (TrEnD) , eDNA Frontiers and the Western Australian Organic and Isotope Chemistry Group (WAOIGC).

You will fulfil the responsibilities under the Biosecurity Act to biannually inspect all the approved facilities which contain biosecurity materials and audit training records and the inventories of biosecurity materials.

Candidates with a degree qualification in agriculture, biology, environmental science or

related field and considerable relevant experience in biosafety compliance; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should also have detailed knowledge and/or experience in the biosafety requirements of scientific facilities and a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Australian Gene Technology, Biosecurity Act and Regulations and the Australian Standards AS2243 ‘Safety in Laboratories’.


As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
