  • Base Salary HEO 4, $72K p.a. + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The Sydney Institute of Agriculture is seeking to appoint a Technical Assistant to provide technical support in the laboratory, plant growth facilities and in the field including carrying out research projects, general maintenance and cleaning of research equipment and space, routine tests/checks of equipment, preparing test samples from research trials, preparing the laboratory for experimental work and assisting with carrying out research experiments under the supervision of senior research staff. This role will also involve analysing qualitative and quantitative data. Work is carried out ensuring the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards of the workplace are met and are aligned to the University’s WHS policy.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide laboratory research support and assistance to researchers, students and other technical staff

  • maintain the laboratory workplace ensuring that the research requirements of the work area are suitably met

  • ensure laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements

  • prepare reports and documentations, including ethics reporting, for the work area.

Technical Assistant who has:

  • relevant training in research application and management, with a willingness to undertake further studies to better develop skills in laboratory techniques/methods

  • an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

  • demonstrated experience in research methodology skills with the ability to prepare data for scientific papers for publication

  • working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures and operating procedures within the laboratory environment

  • a current Australian driver’s license, C Class

  • a willingness to work remotely at designated field sites across Australia.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
