  • Base Salary $77,144 + 17% superannuation 

About the opportunity

The Central Operations Services (COS) team is looking for a highly motivated and self-driven Technical Assistant to join their high performing team. In this role, you will be utilizing your technical skills to provide research assistance in the laboratory, glasshouses, field and TSS managed spaces.

You will prepare and assist with experiments and practicals. You may also assist with the collection and analysis of data.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide technical support and research assistance to staff, students, researchers, and other technical staff in the laboratory, glasshouses, field and TSS managed spaces.

  • prepare the laboratory for experiments, practicals, and tutorials in accordance with scientific protocols

  • assist with experiments in collaboration with researchers, students, and/or other technical staff

  • train staff, visitors, and students in the safe operation of laboratory equipment

  • undertake or coordinate cleaning and sterilisation of laboratory items, materials, tools, and equipment

  • maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, including coordinating maintenance and repairs

  • assist with the safe and appropriate storage and disposal of hazardous substances

  • support the maintenance of a clean and safe laboratory land TSS managed spaces environment, compliant with health and safety requirements

  • assist with the preparation of diverse scientific documentation and applications, including data collection and analysis

  • undertake other duties and projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • demonstrated experience using databases and/or statistical analysis programs

  • demonstrated experience within a laboratory

  • experience implementing safety requirements

  • experience with handling hazardous substances.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
