  • Support the University’s Animal Donation Program (ADP) to enhance Education outcomes
  • Base salary from $83,384 plus 17% superannuation  

About the opportunity 

The Technical Assistant, Animal Donation Program will work from the Camden campus to deliver timely and effective technical services within the ADP to achieve enhanced education support outcomes. This includes providing hands-on support for practical classes, demonstrations, maintenance of equipment and assisting in producing writing safety and procedural documentation.

    

Your key responsibilities will be to: 

  • transport and handling of heavy animal cadavers (corpses), teaching equipment and waste between storage, laboratory bench and disposal location
  • proactively plan, setup and help with the deliverance of practical classes
  • drive and collect animal cadavers from pre-arranged animal facilities and clinics located across greater Sydney region coordinating with the clinical skills education team and key animal donation program staff
  • perform whole-of-life handling, storage, and disposal of animal cadavers in accordance with established technical and safety guidelines
  • conduct technical cleaning and decontamination tasks for equipment and facilities
  • help build and maintain relationships with external facilities that provide animal cadavers
  • fulfil routine service requests in a timely manner
  • maintain inventory databases and regularly perform stocktaking for equipment, consumables, hazardous materials, animal cadavers

About you:

  • full fitness ability to lift, carry, push, pull a variety of loads
  • valid NSW drivers license in order to pick-up and make deliveries
  • relevant experience in front-line service environment interacting with clients
  • experience in preparing, streamlining, set up/pack down of higher educational anatomy classes
  • preferred experience in the dissection of large animals, with cadaveric waste disposal of biological waste and hazardous substances, and decontamination
  • willingness to undergo vaccination and or health screening required
  • no physical reaction/allergy/predisposition or emotional constraint to working with animals, products, dust, or other agents typical to the area of work e.g chemicals, etc.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.  

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
