Working as part of Deakin’s Student Administration division, the Analyst of Student Management Systems will provide high-level advice and support to the wider University community on data held within the University’s Student Management System (SMS), as well as providing support and training to the users of the SMS.  

The successful candidate will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities including the analysis of tasks relating to system functions, generation of reports, management of issues raised by users in a timely and effective manner as well as recommending solutions as appropriate. 


Your key responsibilities will include: 


  • Provide high-level advice, support and training to all users of the University’s SMS on systems functions 

  • Investigate, analyse and identify solution-based recommendations  

  • Report software bugs to Deakin eSolutions or the vendor of the SMS  

  • Analyse and interpret requirements and develop custom user-based Structure Query Language (SQL) queries and reports upon request from the wider University community 


  • Provide end to end technical support of Student Services major business events  

  • Work as a support resource, getting involved in project, upgrade and event activities, while also taking on responsibility of conducting user acceptance testing of Student Management  

  • Develop work instructions to ensure consistency in approach and best practice within the work group 

  • Develop training material, plan and conduct training for ‘general access’ users of the SMS  

  • Develop implement and maintain programming code that facilitates the delivery of functions to applicants and students via the Applicant Portal and StudentConnect 


To be successful, you’ll have: 


  • An equivalent combination of training and experience or a Graduate qualification with an Information Systems focus 

  • Extensive working experience with corporate relational databases, particularly Oracle Developer and Cognos as well as General User Interface tools and systems 

  • Experience in the support of complex corporate computing systems 

  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate communications  


  • Proven capability to work positively and effectively as part of a collaborative work team  

  • Demonstrated ability to organise and plan, and to meet rigid and conflicting demands and deadlines, along with the ability to adapt to changed priorities 

  • Demonstrated understanding and empathy within a customer service environment 

  • Ability to work quickly under pressure while maintaining accuracy 

  • Experience in a higher education institution or other large organisation is desirable
