YOUR ROLE

The Advisor, Sustainability will support delivery of the Universities commitments to sustainability across all areas of RMIT Vietnam.

This position will:

  • Be responsible for articulating and mitigating the environmental risks arising from the university operations. The role will be in charge with of ensuring systems and processes are meeting statutory and best practice requirements. Monitor, migrate and audit all environmental impacts across RMIT’s on-shore campuses

  • Lead end-to-end the deployment of a wide ranges of Sustainability programs, activities and initiatives to support Sustainability Committee to deliver RMIT Vietnam Sustainability strategic goals

  • Build collaborative relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders to embed sustainability outcomes in key programs and initiatives throughout the year

  • Develop and lead annual program of sustainability engagement activities and events to raise awareness of key sustainability issues and build student and staff capabilities. The role will manage all sustainability communication channel and develop tools, campaigns, and awareness programs to encourage resource efficiency and promote the uptake of sustainability initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTIBILITIES

  • Develop sound working relationships and collaboration with RMIT Sustainability in Australia to ensure alignment of Sustainability strategy and leverage resources as appropriate and applicable

  • Support SM, OHSS&S to provide oversight, lead and evaluate outcomes arising from the Sustainability Committee and Operational Working Group activities.

  • Lead end-to-end the deployment of a wide ranges of Sustainability projects, programs, activities and initiatives to support Sustainability Committee to deliver RMIT Vietnam Sustainability strategic goals

  • Lead the identification, scoping, and implementation of further Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG), energy and water consumption reduction or demand management projects within RMIT.

  • Develop an annual Sustainability Engagement Plan, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness, celebrate achievements and foster the sustainability aspirations of the University.

  • Produce and manage resources to implement the annual Sustainability Engagement Plan, working closely with staff across the University to develop impactful initiatives, events and displays

  • Manage all sustainability communication channel and develop tools, campaigns, and awareness programs to encourage resource efficiency and promote the uptake of sustainability initiatives

  • Develop partnerships and relationships with relevant organisations to leverage joint efforts in Sustainability.

  • Work closely with the Operations team and/or relevant stakeholders to lead the investigation, assessment and mitigation of environmental risks arising from the University’s operations.

  • Devise and deliver initiatives to improve resource efficiency, including waste minimisation, utilities consumption though the best practice optimisation of services.

  • Keep up to date with relevant regulatory, industry developments and evaluate of compliance to ensure that the operations of RMIT Vietnam in line with local legislation framework on environmental protection.

  • Act as an expert subject matter to provide consultations on Sustainability in capital projects and operational activities

  • Produce reports in relation to RMIT Vietnam’s environmental management and sustainability activities to contribute to RMIT annual report and annual SDG impact report.

  • Other tasks: Undertake any other duties as required by the Senior Manager, OHSS&S

OUR REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Engineering with minimum 06-year experience in Sustainability related position

  • Understand of legal requirements and standards on environmental protection and sustainability

  • Comprehensive understanding of the ISO14001 standard and substantial experience in implementing, monitoring and auditing Environmental Management Systems/Integrated Management Systems.

  • Experience in engaging with others to build strong stakeholder engagement demonstrating a creative, innovative and enthusiastic approach

  • Proven knowledge of sustainability concepts, including comprehensive experience in planning and implementing sustainability initiatives

  • Good influencing and challenging skills.

  • Strong knowledge and experience of hands-on University operations.

  • Demonstrated project management skills from planning through to implementation, including the ability to deliver against targets, timelines and budgets

  • Ability to liaise with diverse clients and stakeholders with the ability to promote change initiatives

  • High level of organisational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks, to prioritise and to meet timelines in a constantly changing environment

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including coordination, liaison, negotiation, and multicultural communication.

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (General) with a score of at least 6.0 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
