  • Commencement Salary: $87,955 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

Reporting Manager: Library Services, the Support Librarian is a member of the Library Services team and provides support for teaching, learning, research and client services activities and provides technical expertise in information discovery and resource use.

Standard hours apply for this position.   No rostered work outside of 7am to 7pm, however occasional weekend work applies (approximately four (4) shifts per year on a Saturday or Sunday, of four (4) hours, either from 10am to 2pm, or 2pm to 6pm, which can be worked from home.

The Library also coordinates copyright for the University. There are four campus libraries located at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes and an off-campus Library Service that supports regional engagement at Whyalla and Mt Gambier. Information technology and information resource management services are managed from the Mawson Lakes campus. 

The Library operates in an environment of increasing availability of digital information in support of the University’s Digital Learning Strategy. As such, it has accelerated its commitment to acquire the vast majority of resources in digital format which are accessible and discoverable via an established next generation Library Management System. The Library has a growing research collection with over 700,000 ebooks and online journals available anytime, anywhere, on any device. The Library maintains a targeted, high quality print collection and is the custodian of several valuable special collections including the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Management or equivalent skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of emergent technologies and an ability to assess and apply them in a Library environment
  • An extensive knowledge of information sources in all formats and a proven ability in searching databases and other web-based products and services
  • Demonstrated understanding of the changing Australian higher education and academic library sectors and the distinctive profile of the University of South Australia
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work successfully with people at all levels within and outside of the University, and the ability to lead, supervise staff and participate in teams
