Overview
The Academic Pathway Programs is responsible for delivering high quality enabling programs that meet the needs of pre-tertiary students, schools and communities. A key focus of the area is creating university pathways for diverse cohorts of students in metropolitan and regional contexts.

The Role
Working closely and collaboratively with course teaching teams and ECU’s broader Student Success team, the Student Success Officer provides dedicated support to students studying enabling programs at Edith Cowan University. The Student Success Officer has a pivotal role in providing individual student and cohort-based programs to improve student success that are evidence- and sector best practice based. These initiatives require use of site-specific data and, in collaboration with relevant staff, to proactively identify, design and deliver strategies that motivate students, build identity and belonging, and enhance student success.

Collaboration across all University student service points is a major requirement, as is the implementation of a seamless student experience strategy alongside excellent customer service standards. This position will maintain a caseload of students providing proactive contact and case management with a particular focus on supporting academic progress and addressing and resolving complex individual student issues. The Student Success Officer will identify student support needs and develop action plans to enable students to reach their full potential and experience positive outcomes in their ECU studies. You will be familiar with the issues that impact on successful transition and academic success for various student cohorts.

Key Criteria

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Education) with subsequent experience OR an equivalent level of frontline support service expertise gained from a combination of experience and training in implementing programs and managing complex support for diverse individuals.
  • Experience working with students in the Higher Education sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing information and advice to students, including case management, identifying support needs and developing relevant action plans, with attention to detail in record keeping and associated administrative tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in or understanding of using evidence-based practice to design, deliver and/or evaluate initiatives / programs.
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills and the ability to independently prioritise workload, working independently as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to investigate, identify and analyse key issues and the associated alternatives, benefits and costs to develop practical solutions. Involves being creative and innovative when developing effective solutions and the ability to manage related risks. Also, an understanding of when a decision needs to be escalated to others and working to try to identify and address potential problems before they arise.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives. Involves building positive working relationships with others and avoiding “win-lose” confrontations and a focus on preserving and strengthening the ongoing relationship.
  • You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.
