The Office of the Academic Registrar at Curtin University supports and facilitates the University’s governance functions, with regard to both internal and external reporting requirements. The Academic Registrar's role spans both the academic and administrative processes whose duties and powers are set out in the University's statutes.

Your new role

We have an opportunity available for an outstanding administrator with experience in a university environment, to join the team and be responsible for coordinating end to end requirements and processes involved in student conduct matters for the Faculty of Health Sciences.  This includes liaison with students and university staff, providing advice and assistance on best practice in dealing with student conduct matters and ensuring compliance with relevant legislative, policy, and procedural instruments.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for the administration and case management in accordance with university misconduct rules, the direction of the Manager Student Discipline and Compliance to meet service delivery timeframes.
  • Provide advice and guidance to academic and professional staff on policy and legislation interpretation regarding student conduct matters.
  • Originate and investigate cases relating to student misconduct from the Faculty of Health Sciences including data analysis, collation of evidence (i.e., assessment artefacts, witness statements), initial interpretation, verification, and case type.
  • Where cases are originated by others, undertake quality assurance to ensure it meets the university requirements.
  • Ensure all cases are lodged and managed in the university approved on-line student misconduct repository.
  • Manage the student conduct appeals process consistent with the relevant legislative instrument, including liaison with staff, students, proxy’s, and legal counsel.
  • Follow up with staff and students to ensure that panel/board actions are understood and completed within specified times. This includes but is not limited to guidance as to Academic Integrity matters, lodgement of sanctions, change of grades, and rescission of awards.
  • Provide training in relation to student misconduct to Curtin staff.
  • Provide mandated and ad-hoc reports to staff on student discipline matters.
  • Responsible for the coordination of policy compliance with government legislation in relation to misconduct and its impact on progression management for international onshore students.

You will bring to the role

  • Completion of a relevant degree with considerable relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, oral communication, negotiation and mediation skills with the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with students and staff at all levels demonstrating a high level of cross cultural sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated high level written skills (correspondence, published material and preparation of reports).
  • Demonstrated high level time management and organisational skills including a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines/proven scheduling/prioritising skills and an ability to coordinate projects.
  • Demonstrated high level analytical skills and the ability to resolve complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills especially with the Microsoft suite of applications and database applications.
