About This Opportunity 

The EAIT (Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology) Student Employability Team is the Faculty’s gateway for industry engagement with students. The team identifies and facilitates placement opportunities for all EAIT students and enhances the student experience and employability outcomes through the provision of a student employability program. This program will fit within the broader University of Queensland's Student Employability Strategy and Employability Framework.

The Employability Advisor will contribute to the development, implementation and coordination of industry-student activities which benefit EAIT students by allowing them to better understand the professional environment in which they will work and learn valuable employability skills. The main focus of this role will be in leading the student-focused activities for work integrated learning (WIL) placements and in the development, implementation and delivery of employability related modules and activities to further prepare EAIT students for the graduate employment market.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Work Integrated Learning placements

  • Lead all student-facing aspects of EAITs WIL programs.

  • Conduct the end-to-end WIL placement process to support success for EAIT students through their placement, including undertaking student placement consultations, pre-placement workshops, providing CV and interview support, assist with placement site check ins and gaining feedback from students’ post-placement.

  • Support the development of resources such as pre-placement workshop materials and placement handbooks and guide relevant stakeholders.

  • Support the Industry Relationships Coordinator (WIL) and Supervisor Employability and WIL with the development of standard and ad hoc documentation and placement agreements.

  • Provide support with Engineering Professional Practice claims and general student enquiries.

Internal Liaison and Advice

  • Liaise and consult directly with EAIT academic staff and schools to develop key relationships in order to deliver student placement and employability related activities.

  • Liaise with internal UQ stakeholders (e.g. Student Services, UQ Legal Office; Finance and Business Services; UQ Student Employability Centre) to ensure placement and employability related activities are well communicated, supported and are in line with other relevant UQ objectives and programs and/or projects.

Student Employability

  • Contribute to the organisation and delivery of student employability related activities including but not limited to seminars, lectures, workshops and events.

  • Deliver one-on-one student consultations to contribute to student employability.

  • In consultation with the Supervisor, Employability and WIL develop and implement new programs of work and service offerings that enhance student employability and career development learning.

Information Management

  • Record and collate data associated with student placement and external liaison activities across the faculty.

  • Support the Supervisor, Employability and Work Integrated Learning to provide timely, accurate and relevant student placement information and reports to stakeholders including faculty management, academic staff and senior administrative staff.

  • Work with the Supervisor, Employability and Work Integrated Learning to ensure EAIT meets the reporting and record keeping requirements for WIL placements in line with the UQ WIL policy.

Systems and Processes

  • Contribute to the continual improvement of systems and processes of all aspects of the EAIT Student Employability Team’s remit.

Other

  • Ensure you are aware of and comply with legislation and University policy relevant to the duties undertaken, including but not exclusive to:

    • the University’s Code of Conduct

    • requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S responsibilities and procedures developed by the University or Institute/School

    • the adoption of sustainable practices in all work activities and compliance with associated legislation and related University sustainability responsibilities and procedures

    • requirements of the Education Services  for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007 and associated legislation, and related responsibilities and procedures developed by the University

This is a full-time (100%), permanent position at a HEW level 6.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $86,371.95 - $92,658.90, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $101,055.18 - $108,410.91 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Degree qualified in business or a related field with subsequent relevant experience and/ or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

  • A proven understanding of labour market trends and issues relating to recruitment as well as an understanding of trends and issues relating to student and/or graduate employment would be highly regarded.

  • Demonstrated high level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to liaise and build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external

  • Excellent and effective organisational skills and attention to detail with an ability to manage timelines, priorities and handle a high volume of recruitment related activities.

  • Highly developed skills in the use of computer packages including word processing, data storage and retrieval, e-mail, and CRM’s. Experience with specific placement management software such as InPlace would be highly regarded.

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment to successfully coordinate information and implement projects ensuring individual, organisational and unit goals are met.

  • A demonstrated strong commitment to providing a high level of customer service.
