The store assistant is required to assist the Stores and Logistics officer with purchasing and general administration activities in a store environment. Under general direction, the store assistant is responsible for the safe keeping of a range of stocked chemicals and consumables to be used by staff within the College of Science and Engineering.
Key Position Responsibilities
This role is to provide general day to day assistance in the College store.
The key responsibilities within the College Store are:
Provide excellent customer service and advice to users of the store;
Arrange deliveries of orders and supplies;
Organise incoming supplies; ensure items are appropriately stored and added to the store inventory;
Assist with the ordering of store supplies and special orders;
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of chemicals, biological materials and other substances that are ordered through the store; and
Assist in ensuring the store WHS practices are compliant; in particular that chemicals and other hazardous substances are handled properly and made available to staff in an appropriate way;
Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.
Key Position Capabilities
Completion of a certificate level qualification with relevant work related experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders and customers
Familiarity with workplace health and safety processes and procedures
Experience in the handling of chemicals and other hazardous substances.
An understanding of processes in relation to the procurement of chemicals and laboratory supplies.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work in both team and autonomous environments.
A relevant qualification in science.
Experience working in an institution delivering science education and research.
