About the Role
The Storage Engineer will manage storage systems for the University of Melbourne Research Cloud, HPC infrastructure, and research data platforms. Responsibilities include overseeing Ceph clusters, supporting vendor-managed storage, and contributing to infrastructure development to meet research needs. This role will provide an opportunity in advancing storage operations and research capabilities! 

Your responsibilities will include: 


  • Manage day-to-day operation and improvements of storage clusters for Research Cloud and HPC infrastructure 
  • Continuously enhance automation, security, and systems management processes
  • Review, deploy, and execute system upgrades, patches, and releases 
  • Monitor capacity, performance, and usage to ensure efficient resource utilisation and deliver prompt service requests 

Who we are looking for

Additionally, you will develop problem-solving and judgment skills in complex, distributed environments, making it an enriching experience for professional development across the board. 

You will also have: 


  • The appointee will have Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science or Software Engineering OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training 
  • Experience in using automation and configuration management tools such as Puppet and Ansible 
  • Experience deploying and managing clusters of Linux servers/services 
  • Outstanding Linux system administration experience, especially with Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
