About Government and External Relations Division

Government and External Relations is a key division in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the team coordinates cross-university relations with government and industry to enhance the University’s reputation, grow student numbers and enhance research priorities.

About the Role 

We have a unique opening for a Stakeholder Engagement Advisor. Reporting to the Director, Government and External Relations, this role supports the University’s key activities that cultivate and maintain positive relationships with a diverse range of government and industry stakeholders as well as colleges across the University to undertake external engagement activities, including key stakeholder visits and events.

As the successful candidate, you will be providing oversight of associations and coalitions, including membership-based organisations and industry bodies to enable senior leaders to foster collaborations with government agencies, industry partners and local communities.

Some of the key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Coordinate the University’s engagement with membership-based organisations, including organising University attendance and speakers and informing external stakeholder participation at events sponsored by the university.

  • Prepare briefings, coordinate visits and provide event support to position the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and the Senior Executive Team to foster collaboration between the university and external stakeholders for mutual benefit.

  • Support the Government and External Relations team to collaborate with university departments to undertake stakeholder mapping and inform the development of tailored industry and government engagement plans to drive shared priorities.

  • Develop a calendar of external relations activities, manage the Government and External Relations team’s externally facing inboxes and maintain a central database of external relations contacts.

  • Contribute to the development of policy, protocols, systems, and processes that underpin external relations activities and enhance the University's reputation.

About You 

To be successful in this impactful role, you will have extensive experience working in a fast-paced environment and can prioritise tasks efficiently on a day-to-day basis. You are a self-starter who has a growth mindset to continually learn and develop on the job as well as having the ability to dive into policies and complex matters.

You have a genuine curiosity to ask the right questions and understand our internal and external stakeholders to build collaborative relationships and support the senior leadership on this aspect. You will be passionate about providing solutions and supporting senior leadership to create effective relationships with industry stakeholders.

Some of the key position capabilities of the role include:

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • General to broad knowledge of the higher education sector to assist the university to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with industry and government to strengthen those relationships.

  • Well-developed written communication skills including preparing briefing papers and reports.

  • Well-developed oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage and influence stakeholders.
