About the opportunity

The Staff Health Support Manager will lead the University’s Workers Compensation, Staff Health Support, Disability Support, and Workplace Adjustments processes in accordance with relevant legislation. The role has responsibility of managing the workers compensation policies and scheme agents in NSW, and in other Australian states where University of Sydney staff are located or work.

The Manager also leads a team of allied health professionals ensuring sector leading injury management, health support and return to work performance at the University. The role will play an integral role in designing and leading specific projects which align with the Safety PSU vision and strategy as well as delivering projects/programs of work that focus on improving and enabling sector leading workplace adjustment procedures and injury management for University Staff.

The role operates at a senior leadership level by providing strategic insights into injury trends and contributing actively to the health and wellbeing strategic agenda and strategic plan, ensuring a risk management approach is applied.

Responsibilities also include:

  • undertake strategic planning for the Staff Health Support team with a focus on continuous improvement via projects, training, and budget allocation
  • provides operational management for the workers compensation and injury management processes
  • provide leadership, support, and guidance to a team of Staff Health Support Partners
  • enable effective working relationships between the SHS team, Health and Safety team and key client groups
  • Management and oversight of our Employee Assistance Program

About you

  • extensive knowledge and application of Worker’s compensation and Injury Management Legislation
  • extensive experience in injury management of varied physical and psychological injury management cases
  • experience and exposure managing disability cases
  • several years experience in leading a team of professionals and operational resources
  • knowledge and understanding of incident reporting, claims and legal dispute processes
  • background or qualifications in allied health
  • team player, willing to hear new ideas from team members in order to improve overall direction and results  
  • You are able to develop effective relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation ranging from the legal team, to HR, procurement, workplace relationships, and student wellbeing; just to name a few.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
