  • Base Salary $91,644 - $98,796 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

As the Staff Engineer, you will support the research capabilities within the Sydney Manufacturing Hub (SMH), including 3-D printing, materials processing, and other additive/advanced manufacturing capabilities.

The Sydney Manufacturing Hub is a new world-class research capability for the delivery of additive and advanced manufacturing (AM) and materials processing science and technology. AM is a disruption to design, materials, supply chains and commerce and allows objects/components/devices and, potentially, whole machines to be transformed from the digital realm to the physical realm, with high precision. Academically, Sydney is a strong performer in AM research and is looking to further develop our leadership as an Australian institution and to work closely with industry in this new exciting field of advanced manufacturing.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a diverse team, reporting to the Chief Engineer of the Sydney manufacturing hub (SMH)

  • ensure that your area of the facility is properly maintained and that all additive manufacturing and materials processing equipment is functioning correctly

  • prepare and review standard operating procedure (SOPs) as well as risk assessments

  • ensure the laboratory is compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements

  • manage specific budgeted amounts for consumable stock and materials

  • train users on the additive manufacturing and materials processing equipment.

About you

  • tertiary qualifications in engineering, science, manufacturing and/or related field

  • solid understanding of additive manufacturing and materials processing techniques

  • experience and expertise using CAD and/or other 3D modelling software

  • sound working knowledge and acute awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within a laboratory environment

  • effective team player with exceptional communication, both oral and written and interpersonal skills

  • self-driven, proactively monitor and understand developments in the field and technology utilised.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
