About the Curtin Medical School

Established in 2017, the Curtin Medical School, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, brings together multidisciplinary teaching and research expertise. The Curtin Medical School encompasses four Discipline including Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Science and Medical Radiation Science. The Discipline of Medicine leads the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia. It is committed to producing graduates who are better equipped to meet community needs, with primary care expertise, strong leadership skills and the ability to operate effectively in interprofessional care teams.

We seek an outstanding Intensive Care or Emergency Medicine Physician on a 0.2 FTE basis, to co-ordinate teaching across institutions, review and develop curriculum and assist with teaching in acute care medicine through years 2-5 of our undergraduate degree. Some opportunities will exist to pursue research exists for established research clinicians. Your career history will showcase your professional expertise and your excellence in teaching in the field of acute care medicine. A good understanding of the student learning experience through high quality, effective teaching practice and curriculum design is essential. This appointment could be based at a hospital.
In your new role you will

  • Support curriculum development in relation to acute care medicine across the MBBS course
  • Facilitate clinical placement opportunities in acute care medicine for MBBS students
  • Develop, review and participate in assessment activities
  • Contribute to the Discipline of Medicine Clinical Advisory Committee
  • Write curriculum documents mapping the integration of acute care medicine to ensure MBBS course documentation reflects the incorporation of acute care medicine appropriately, as directed by the Director of Learning and Teaching.
  • Design and contribute to formative and summative assessments as directed by the Director of Learning and Teaching.
  • Support external accreditation activities and write reports related to learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Develop and participate in Curtin Medical School research activities
  You will bring to the role
  • Medical practitioner with unrestricted AHPRA general registration as a medical practitioner
  • FACEM or FCICM or equivalency.
  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (desirable).
  • Demonstrated academic leadership experience in the discipline/profession and in community engagement.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills.
