About the team

UWA is making significant investments in the Information and Technology Services area to enable its strategic direction and goals. Cybersecurity is one of these areas and is undergoing an uplift in capability and delivery of new services to align with the University’s risk strategy.

The Cybersecurity & Technology Risk unit provides risk governance, architecture & design assurance, and operational governance to all aspects of the cyber security domain, from network security, platform security, application development, cyber awareness and education, and security operations.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, have a significant role in integrating cybersecurity best practices into the day-to-day operations of the University. You will be responsible for coordinating cyber security and technology risk assurance activities and providing oversight and governance over risk remediation activities, audit findings and issues in support of UWA’s overall IT risk management program, which is designed to ensure that the University’s IT systems and information assets are adequately protected.

You will work closely with other technology functions and projects to proactively seek opportunities for cybersecurity advice and provide risk assessments of proposed changes and initiatives.

You will own the delivery of a targeted and engaging cyber security awareness program across staff and students, aiming to influence positive behavioural change that reduces risk.

About you

You will have practical experience in a cyber security role with a familiarity of security frameworks and risk management methodologies. You will have experience with identifying and assessing cyber security risks, providing security consultancy and assurance activities and take a pragmatic approach to risk mitigation and security guidance. You are a consummate security professional and are passionate about raising the awareness and education of cyber security. You are outgoing, vocal and do no shy away from taking centre stage. You have strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills and take a collaborative approach towards achieving outcomes.

You will ideally have relevant industry certifications, such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC or CISA. Prior exposure to awareness, phishing and social engineering campaigns, as well as working in an IT project environment would be advantageous.
