Create reputational benefit and generate economic impact by building, supporting and delivering a world class technology portfolio to industry and investors.

The Innovation & Commercial Partners’ (ICP) Commercialisation team deliver technologies to market that create a positive impact on society, and return benefits to the University to support research activities and ongoing innovation.

As an integral part of the Commercialisation team, the Commercial Manager works to create new opportunities for the University in intellectual property, licensing and the generation and support of new spin-out companies, as ways to translate research conducted at the University. The role aims to generate impact through knowledge transfer and economic development for South Australia and the nation. The Commercial Manager engages with University researchers, industry partners, government stakeholders, regulators, venture capitalists and other funding providers.

Health & Medical Sciences at the University is interdisciplinary and ranges from discovery to pre-clinical and clinical research in partnership with industry, other University faculty, the South Australian Health system, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and the South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI).

The role requires a self-starter, with combined experience in business development, commercial negotiation and relationship management, who can effectively scope, assess, market and translate high-tech intellectual property assets to external partners, to maximise impact from our research.

The Commercial Manager maintains and manages a portfolio, which may cross over into other disciplines based on need and expertise.

To be successful you will need:

    • To take a hands-on approach in a less structured environment to identify potential partners and coordinate, deliver to deadline and implement technology commercialisation strategies in a complex multi-stakeholder, multi-priority environment.
    • To be a resilient self-starter, with outstanding interpersonal, communication, influencing and proven contract negotiation and execution skills to effectively drive transactions to deadline as the project team lead.
    • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem solving skills including the provision of advice and recommendations to senior management.
    • Demonstrated experience in management, including leadership, motivation and establishment of a quality service environment.
    • To have existing and current networks with industry, research bodies, government authorities and the investment community.
