About the team

UWA is making significant investments in the Information and Technology Services to enable its strategic direction and goals.  UWA is also looking to utilise technology advancements to expand its services and create new and innovative teaching and research models.

The University is looking to invest into refactoring many of the internally developed and managed applications which support the delivery of teaching, research and professional services.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will, under broad direction, work as an embedded member of the Application Modernisation team to transform both the existing codebase and software development practices within University IT to support and accelerate our adoption of a cloud-first strategy.

You will take on a position as an architectural and software engineering leader. You will be developing the architectural artefacts to support the transformation, and mentoring software engineers in adoption of the new technologies and patterns.

Within the project team, you will lead the development of architectural designs for specific applications, and lead the implementation and release of the new software product, ensuring that the final product is conformant with the architectural patterns.

Your work will integrate with the efforts of a larger team of architects developing future state solutions architectures to achieve the architecture vision and strategic goals of the University. 

About you 

As the appointee you will work closely with software developers, providing technology leadership and vision, and provide mentoring and guidance to your colleagues to develop their cloud-native development skills. You will be able to identify candidate cloud architecture patterns for re-factoring existing code and lead their development and adoption throughout the organisation. You will build rapport and trust with senior stakeholders and position yourself as a thought leader within University IT.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate :

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification or demonstrated equivalent
  • Current Azure Solution Architect certification
  • TOGAF 9.1 or later preferred
  • Extensive technical experience with the following technologies:
    • C#
    • .NET
    • Azure Integration Services
    • Microsoft Azure platform and infrastructure as a service concepts
    • Proven experience architecting and implementing API layers using REST or SOAP to integrate legacy applications
  • Experience leading a team of software engineers and architects to transform legacy codebases to a cloud-first architecture in a large enterprise
  • High-level consultation and negotiation skills with the ability to establish positive stakeholder relationships at all levels
  • Working knowledge of the Higher Education sector is desirable
