About the opportunity

Join an experienced and highly collegiate legal team working at the forefront of research and commercialisation at one of the world’s top research universities.

The Solicitor (Intellectual Property, Commercial and Research) will provide sound, timely and cost effective legal advice and support to the University on a broad range of matters  with a focus on intellectual property, contracts, corporate and commercial law.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • providing strategic and sound legal advice
  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements for research, commercialisation and other commercial activities
  • dispute resolution
  • managing external legal services
  • contributing to the development of policy and legislation affecting the higher education sector
  • communicating to the University regarding legal developments

About you

  • qualifications in law and admission to practice in Australia and hold a current practising certificate
  • a minimum of 6 years post admission legal experience is desired (but strong candidates with less experience also considered)
  • experience working in the fields of intellectual property, contracts, corporate and commercial law, including drafting and reviewing legal documents
  • familiarity with advising on trade marks, branding and marketing activities would be an advantage
  • a strong interest and desire to learn and develop a career in IP and technology transfer
  • high quality interpersonal and communication skills
