About the Role

An exceptional career opportunity exists for a professional and motivated Solicitor to provide in-house legal advice and support to the University’s management and staff. You will focus on a broad range of practice areas including corporate governance, privacy and defamation, contract arrangements, intellectual property, competition law, student matters, property related transactions and legislative compliance.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor

The Office of the Vice Chancellor provides the Vice Chancellor with a wide range of executive and administrative support to enable the effective and efficient leadership of the University. The Office is led by the Director: Office of the Vice Chancellor.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor provides strategic support and advice to Vice Chancellor to facilitate the achievement of university’s strategic plan. Activities include administration of a complex executive environment as well as project management, policy development, liaison with the Executive Group, and government agencies, and oversight of the University’s governance, regulatory and assurance frameworks.

Core Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial and research related agreements
  • Advise on contracts and other documentation to identify legal issues and provide advice to mitigate risk
  • Provide legal advice to management and other staff on a broad range of legal issues
  • Advise and manage disputes using appropriate processes aligned with the University’s values
  • Develop and update legal precedents, resources and other documents based on best legal practice

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Recognised degree in law from a Higher Education Provider and a current South Australian practising certificate
  • Minimum 5 years post admission legal experience in a commercial practice and/or in-house role
  • Experience providing accurate and practical legal advice across a range of complex legal issues relevant to the tertiary education sector
  • Experience drafting and negotiating a range of commercial/research related contracts
  • Clear communicator with strong stakeholder relationship skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to deal effectively with a high-volume workload
