About the opportunity
The Solicitor (Corporate and Commercial) is responsible for providing sound, timely and cost-effective legal advice, and representing University clients across a range of corporate and commercial law matters.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- provision of strategic and sound legal advice
- negotiating arrangements and agreements and drafting and reviewing legal documents
- dispute resolution
- engaging external legal services
- development of policy
- communicating to the University about legal concepts, issues and developments
- professional development and contribution to the development of the Office of General Counsel
About you
- minimum 5+ years post admission legal experience
- qualifications in law and admission to practice law in NSW
- experience in drafting and reviewing a range of commercial agreements (including goods and services agreements, IT contracts, documents for tenders, sponsorship agreements, collaborative arrangements, funding agreements, confidentiality agreements, and a range of collaborations between public and private sector organisations)
- extensive experience in contracts, intellectual property and commercial law, the conduct of negotiations, drafting documents and the provision of advice in these and related areas
- provision of legal advice and strategy in relation to the management and settlement of disputes
- commercial acumen and the ability to provide swift, sound and practical advice
- excellent interpersonal skills including experience in delivering information and concepts to disparate audiences
- knowledge of the higher education sector and government agencies desirable but not essential

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
