This is a unique opportunity for a Solicitor (Corporate and Commercial) to be involved in advising the University during a period of transformative change and innovation.

You will have a practical commercial approach and an interest in working within one of the world’s top universities to assist it to reach its educational and research objectives. You will have an opportunity to work independently within a supportive and collegiate team environment.

Your high quality interpersonal and communication skills will ensure you can develop strong relationships with professional and academic staff within the University, as well as manage complex matters and client expectations in fast paced and challenging environments, providing practical and accessible advice in a timely and cost effective manner.

  • qualifications in law and admission to practice in New South Wales and holds a current practising certificate;
  • 4 years post admission legal experience (though strong candidates outside this range will be considered); and
  • demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and advising on a wide range of corporate and commercial law matters.

The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for overall co-ordination of the provision of legal services for the University, and for providing legal advice to the Senate and the Chancellor, and to the Vice-Chancellor, senior executives and other officers of the University.  The goal of the Office is to provide advice of high quality, either directly, or by the engagement of barristers and external solicitors with relevant expertise.

The Corporate and Commercial team within the Office of General Counsel is responsible for a broad range of matters cutting across the University’s research, educational and administrative functions. Every day is different and the Corporate and Commercial team is often the first port of call within the office for important strategic initiatives and quick responses to disputes.
