The role of Research Projects staff in CSIRO is to collaborate in scientific and technological activities with other research staff usually by assisting with detailed planning, undertaking or assisting with experimental, observational or technology development work, and in carrying out the more practical aspects of the work. At senior levels, Research Projects staff may be involved in providing consulting services, science and technology management and/or industry liaison.
The Natural Systems Modelling Group at CSIRO’s Data61 is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge computational models to support relevant stakeholders in government and industry in their efforts to combat natural disasters and climate change. Our mission is to harness the power of data and technology to create models that aid in disaster response, preparedness, adaptation and mitigation. We collaborate closely with a range of relevant stakeholders to design and implement innovative solutions that make a real difference in our communities.
As a Lead Scientific Software Engineer, you will guide the technical vision and execution of various scientific platforms, ensuring that our solutions are at the forefront of innovation. In addition to providing technical leadership in helping develop and maintain cutting-edge scientific platforms, you will be instrumental in providing mentorship to junior engineers, ensuring the cohesion of our technical team. Collaborating within cross-functional teams, you will actively participate in the design and implementation of efficient solutions, adhering to DevOps principles and industry best practices. Applications include Natural Hazards Modelling, Biodiversity Modelling, Climate Risk Analytics and Visualisation and spatio-temporal ESG.
