We seek a Full Time/Part Time software engineer/cyber security engineer/research associate to join the High-Performance Intelligent Systems (HPIS) research group at the School of EECMS, Curtin University, to work on industry-focused DevOps projects.

As the Australian Government funds this position – the Department of Defence appointees must be Australian Citizens and able to undertake Baseline Security clearance to participate in this project.

Motivated and promising candidates without cited experience (including recent graduates) will also be considered for these positions and are encouraged to apply.

About the role
Duties of your role will include:

  • To investigate the performance and security implications of various system architectures from virtualisation, containerisation, microVMs and Unikernels.
  • To conduct a literature review of the above system architectures.
  • To critically explore and assess the architecture of various Kubernetes engines.
  • To support the software development of a cloud-native micro-service application hosted in Kubernetes, in various programming languages.
  • Develop threat modelling and investigate solutions in the context of container architecture and VMs.
  • Maintain communication with project partners and stakeholders throughout assigned projects to ensure regular exchange of project-related information and to initiate appropriate action for issues if they arise.
  • Produce and maintain high-level documentation, including but not limited to technical reports, code repositories, and code itself.

Essential Criteria:

  • An undergraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (computer science, software engineering or cyber security) with considerable relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Intermediate or strong fundamental Linux knowledge.
  • Knowledge or interest in how containerisation is achieved, and container runtime environments.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in security analysis/software engineering best practices.
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of an agile team.
Desired Criteria:
  • Experience in virtualisation in any form, and knowledge or interest in how it is achieved.
  • Experience in threat modelling/ penetration testing and secure system programming.
  • Container experience with Docker and or Kubernetes in a production environment.
