Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Technician (Projects) - Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Science, Academic Division.

The faculty is in the process of regularising arrangements with Research Centres, such that the level of support provided is consistently delivered across all centres. This full time, fixed term to 31/12/24, position will deliver plans to ensure the consistent provision of laboratory technical services into the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy (CAB). This will be through a combination of Faculty of Science Technical Services laboratory custodian staff and laboratory management functions provided by research teams operating in the various CAB laboratories. To support the transition from the current arrangements to the new arrangements; this role will work with various Faculty and CAB stakeholders to bed down the new arrangements and ensure there are no gaps in service provision. This is particularly so in relation to health and safety compliance, and GM PC2 (OGTR), Biosecurity and domestic Quarantine compliance. Effective communications and negotiating skills are required.

The Technical Services & Space unit comprises of: Environmental, Geological and Biological Sciences technical support team, Chemistry and Physical Sciences technical support team, Space, Assets, Logistics and Technology support team..

What you need to succeed

  • Completion of a relevant degree, with subsequent pertinent experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, preferably in a biological sciences laboratory setting or industry research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing clear and concise documentation and communicating and negotiating effectively with a range of academics and researchers and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement operational plans, business procedures and workflows to achieve improved business services with the ability to work independently to effectively plan, organise and prioritise associated tasks within required deadlines.
  • Proven ability to critically evaluate systems and processes and work collaboratively to achieve team-based outcomes in a complex, fast paced and changing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an effective health and safety culture, and knowledge of the regulations pertinent to a research environment including the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR), Biosecurity Australia and domestic Quarantine.
