Job Description

This is a full-time continuing position at a HEP 6, $82,372 - $ 89,161 classification, plus 17% superannuation, working 36.75 hours per week.

About the Role

The overall purpose of the Senior Technical Officer (Clinical Health) is to provide a high level of technical support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as Academic and Research staff in the areas of physiotherapy, dietetics, speech pathology and clinical health, within the College of Health and Biomedicine and College of Sport and Exercise Science facilities. The Senior Technical Officer (Clinical Health) will be required to utilise a large range of skills including the use, maintenance, and calibration of specialised equipment and the purchase of new equipment and laboratory/clinical consumables

About the Person
You will be working in the Technical Services department at Victoria University.  The department is a shared service providing support to the University Colleges, Research Institutes and Victoria University Polytechnic (VU’s TAFE division).  This role provides services into all sectors as required. Your experience and knowledge of the physiotherapy, speech pathology and dietetics disciplines, along with your commitment to providing a positive student experience will assist you in delivering on Victoria University’s vision to empower a diverse community of students, to grow their capabilities and transform their lives.   

Duties

An example of duties you may perform will include:

  • Coordinate the use of all relevant teaching and research facilities and equipment and implement, develop and comply with associated systems, policies and procedures including OHS, biosafety, chemicals, accreditation, manuals, standard operating procedures and risk assessments.
  • Provide high level technical expertise and direction to staff and students on equipment selection, experiments and techniques.
  • Ensure all requirements for practical teaching classes, simulation learning classes, research and consultancy activities are met in a timely fashion; including the availability of consumables, health care supplies and equipment and set-up and pack-up of experiments, simulated learning laboratories and practical classes.
  • Under broad direction, schedule work in an efficient and effective manner to meet the priorities of staff and students. 
  • Conduct facility and equipment inductions, including manikin based computers and technical audio-visual equipment for staff and undergraduate and postgraduate students and ensure all end users are appropriately trained.
  • Participate in clinical and simulation scenario development with regard to technical scenario logistics and fulfil the technical aspects of role delivery as documented in scenario templates.
  • Maintain equipment and consumable inventory and storage systems for designated teaching and research laboratories for security and service purposes.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate laboratory equipment; including clinical and simulation learning laboratory equipment and associated technology, simulation manikins and teaching models. Ensure all equipment is operational and accreditation procedures are followed. Use initiative to troubleshoot equipment solutions. Liaise with external agencies and equipment suppliers to maintain/develop knowledge in discipline specific technological advances.
  • Source equipment, consumables and any other materials required for teaching and research, liaise with external suppliers for quotations, submit purchase orders as required, receipt goods and liaise with Finance staff to process invoices.
  • Conduct administrative tasks including budgeting when required.
  • Provide support to the Technical Manager and mentor, train and supervise other technical staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students when required.
