We are seeking for a Senior Technical Officer (Life & Earth Sciences) with demonstrated experience in overseeing research lab activities such as equipment maintenance, training and compliance. The Senior Technical Officer will take a lead role in the continuous improvement cycle for technical support services within the Faculty, and proactively seek out opportunities and areas for improvement.

The Technical Team Life and Earth Sciences supports the internationally acclaimed and contemporary disciplines of molecular & cellular biology; ecology & environmental sciences; geology and earth sciences and genetics & evolution, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education, training and research with both national relevance and global outreach and networks in the public and private sectors

Working under broad direction the Senior Technical Officer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance of a wide range of shared research equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of the Faculty’s research facilities as well as ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing, legislative requirements and Australian Standards. The Senior Technical Officer maintains accurate records of all infrastructure and assets and manages various technical and infrastructure projects. The Senior Technical Officer supports a broad range of activities related to Biology, Biotechnology, Ecology, Earth Sciences.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in supporting experimental research laboratories and facilities in the field of Biology/Biotechnology, and/or Ecology, and/or Earth Sciences
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate individual and team work activities to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Sound communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to interact with a broad range of people.
  • An understanding of safety and regulatory requirements, with demonstrated experience in application of these in a research environment.
  • Sound analytical and research skills, and demonstrated ability to think creatively and laterally and exercise initiative as appropriate.
