The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Technical Officer to join School of Earth Atmosphere and Environment. You will be part of a collaborative team in a high-volume environment where you will play a critical role in supporting the School by providing high level technical services for all researchers, staff, students and facilities including field and laboratory operations.
The Role
As a Senior Technical Officer, you will be a subject matter expert in an Earth Science or a related discipline, providing strategic and operational support to academic and technical staff, and students, delivering efficient technical services with a focus on operational excellence and innovation. The position will provide support for undergraduate teaching through to Higher Degree by Research (HDR) education programmes, as well as research technical services and facilities with a focus on off-campus field work support. The role will also provide technical advice, developing and supporting papers for publication, and research or technical procedures.
The Senior Technical Officer will act as Senior Safety Officer and First Aid Coordinator in the School. This includes managing the School’s risk management and OHS systems and records, and training clients, staff, students and other stakeholders in safe operating procedures including fieldwork safety, and compliance with technical standards and protocols.
About You
You will hold a Honours, Masters or Doctoral qualification in a relevant Earth Science discipline, with extensive relevant experience in a research and/or educational environment or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and or education/training and have demonstrated experience in overseeing a successful technical service, program or facility with the ability to prioritise tasks. You will possess excellent planning and organisation skills, strong relationship building skills and highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
