About the Role

Reporting to the Research Professor (UniSA Director of Microscopy Australia), you will provide highly specialised technical expertise in microscopy and microanalysis under the UniSA node of Microscopy Australia (MA) for the biological and life sciences research community. This key role will service a large user-base of researchers, and will involve training of new users, as well as management of Physical Containment (PC2) laboratory spaces in addition to providing technical support in the preparation and imaging of biological specimens.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialised technical expertise in microscopy and microanalysis
  • Management of laboratory spaces and associated administrative tasks
  • Ensure laboratories funded by Microscopy Australia meet all regulatory requirements
  • Training of students and researchers new to the laboratory in the preparation of samples, instrument operations and interpretation of data
  • Collaborate with and advise researchers who have limited knowledge of microscopy and microanalysis, and provide advice on sample preparation and experimental design

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor qualifications in biological or life sciences or a relevant discipline
  • Extensive experience preparing biological specimens for optical, fluorescence and/or confocal microscopy
  • Experience in histopathology staining, analysis, assessment, and working with image analysis software
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a Physical Containment (PC2) laboratory environment
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a complex environment with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
