  • Salary $69,605 per annum (plus up to 17% superannuation)

About the Role

This position provides mechanical expertise and undertakes a broad range of technical duties to support STEM’s teaching, research and commercial activities and provides needs based support and services to the Future Industries Institute.

Core Responsibilities

  • CNC machining on both CNC Mills and Lathes
  • Set up and assist with laboratory, practical and field classes, and demonstrations for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Plan and coordinate the design, adaptation and/or fabrication of specialised equipment
  • Consult with and provide advice and support to students and academic staff
  • Provide technical support, services and advise to support STEM’s commercial/consulting activities or projects
  • Ensure STEM's laboratory and workshop procedures and processes are adhered to and Technical Services work environments are maintained to meet STEM and legislative requirements

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A Certificate IV or Diploma or Trade Certificate in fitting and machining, and demonstrated extensive experience in a technical discipline (e.g. mechanical engineering)
  • Recent hands-on experience in a research and/or testing facility or laboratory
  • Can demonstrate proficiency in the operating, designing and maintenance/repairs of specialised equipment (CNC Machining)
  • High level skills in welding and sheet metal fabrication and other materials e.g. timber and plastics
  • Well-developed experience and knowledge of WHS regulations in a laboratory/workshop/field environment
