ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation 

We are the leading Australian research and training centre tackling biofilm-related challenges. 

The ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation , led by Flinders University, is a 5 year, $7.8m research and training program, bringing together 5 universities, 10 industry partners and key industry and regulatory bodies to deliver innovative research and biofilm solutions to tackle important issues for the maritime and water industries. 

By working with industries to develop innovative solutions that meet their needs and alleviate their biofilm-related problems, the ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation aims to: transform biofouling management strategies for maritime platforms; train the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists and engineers; and to develop biofilm management strategies across the defence and water industries to address evolving regulatory stringency. 


About the Role

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Technical Officer (Research Support) to support laboratory operations within the ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation.

As a Senior Technical Officer, you will work with a range of core specialist equipment supporting research including culture and controlled environments. This position is pivotal in managing and delivering training for students, researchers, and laboratory facility personnel who use specialist research equipment.

More specifically, as a Senior Technical Officer (Research Support), you will:

  • Develop and implement safe operating procedures and practices for equipment and processes which will ensure the on-site safety of the workplace.

  • Implement and maintain a booking system and asset lifecycle management system.

  • Coordinate the annual Controlled Environment Audit, develop and maintain a Controlled Environment sample database.

About You

With experience in biosecurity and biosafety, you will apply your knowledge of WHS and Biosafety procedures to confidently work with and train others to use range of research equipment. You will be agile and comfortable working in a diverse and changing clinical laboratory environments. Using your strong analytical skills, you will be able to work independently as well as in a team and use your initiative to manage multiple priorities.

The Senior Technical Officer (Research Support) will also have access to on-site training and support from senior colleagues to excel in the position.
