  • Salary $69,605 per annum (plus up to 17% superannuation)

About the Role

This position provides expertise in Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Science, Geology and/or Mineral Processing and undertakes a broad range of technical duties to support STEM’s teaching, research and commercial activities and provides needs-based support and services to the Future Industries Institute.

Core Responsibilities

  • Set up and assist with laboratory, practical and field classes for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including preparing equipment and consumables
  • Plan and coordinate the design, adaptation and/or fabrication of specialised equipment
  • Consult with and provide advice and support to students and academic staff on technical requirements, policies and procedures and operating equipment
  • Ensure STEM/FII's laboratory and workshop procedures and processes are adhered to
  • Upgrade, maintain and repair laboratory and field related equipment

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A Bachelor degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mineral Processing or a related field, or extensive equivalent and relevant industry experience
  • Experience and proficiency in operating, designing and maintaining specialised laboratory/workshop equipment in a geotechnical/geology/mineral processing research laboratory or testing facility
  • Proven experience in evaluating technical requirements and designing analytical procedures and techniques to solve industry-related problems
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience of WHS regulations in a laboratory/workshop/field environment
  • Sound written, verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate operating instructions
