The Waurn Ponds Estate consists of 60 contemporary refurbished accommodation rooms, eight technology rich conference rooms, extensive breakout areas and a stunning restaurant leading to the kitchen garden.

Tucked away on Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus, the Estate is surrounded by a beautiful, distraction free rural environment with complimentary car parking. The Estate is approximately one hour drive from Melbourne and 30 minutes’ drive from Avalon Airport.

The Role

  • Full time, Continuing role, located at the Waurn Ponds Estate
  • HEW 5 $71,467 + 17% Superannuation 

Your key responsibilities will include but not limited to;

  • Develop and implement effective team training for food and beverage service, wine knowledge and recognise any further development that may be required for the whole team.
  • Lead the team to provide a high end corporate hospitality service standard, ensuring that the dining and front of house experience exceed guest expectations and compliment the Estate
  • Ensure the implementation of all University policies that relate to the areas for which the position is responsible; in particular, those relating to equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, risk management, team development and team performance planning and review.
  • This role has staffing responsibilities and must therefore ensure staff and own adherence to University policies and procedures, including but not limited to those relating to equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, risk and financial management, privacy, staff development and staff performance planning and review.
  • Oversee and lead the team in the day to day operation and coordination including set up/pack up, customer and waiter service,  presentation, maintenance, cleanliness and safety of the function and meeting rooms, dining room and food and beverage service provision.
  • Provide high level customer service, and support to clients and team at all times.
  • Schedule team roster including casual staff, based upon anticipated guest counts and needs. Maintain the team roster to ensure the professional delivery of all events.

To be successful, you’ll have;

  • A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience or a Degree in Hospitality/Event Management.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce clear and accurate communications that are appropriate for their intended audience
  • Proven capability to work positively and effectively as part of a collaborative work team, to accommodate and work well with different working styles and to work independently where required
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and plan, and to meet rigid and conflicting demands and deadlines, along with the ability to adapt to changed priorities
  • Experienced food knowledge, produce and service cultures to ensure we stay at the top of industry trends
  • Able to troubleshoot technology issues experienced by guests
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, diplomacy, tact and discretion as well as proven experience handling sensitive and personal information in a confidential and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, acts ethically and honestly and complies with all University policies and procedures, statutory obligations and relevant professional codes of conduct and practice.
  • Full time flexible hours are required (able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays)
