Senior Security Engineer

Your role

Senior Security Engineer is a specialist in leading and coordinating the relevant technical teams within the ICT team, to create, design, implement and maintain all security infrastructure for RMIT Vietnam.

The Senior Security Engineer has considerable technical expertise and solutions focussed background with a focussed approach to providing relevant security solutions, including but not limited to On-Premises Security: Virtualization, Servers, Storage, Windows & Linux Operating Systems and Security on Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure).

This position serves as a specialist resource to a diverse range of internal stakeholders on security related issues and best practices, and will monitor trends in standards and emerging technologies, applying developments as appropriate to ICT related projects, and following RMIT process and procedures.

This position will have expert knowledge of RMIT VN security infrastructure to provide relevant, accurate technology solutions as required.

Key accountabilities

• Document and process map all corporate security infrastructure.

• Manage day to day security infrastructure design and review as well as projects to ensure the timely delivery and the ongoing maintenance of security infrastructure to meet the requirements of the University.   This includes producing and maintaining detailed project documentation, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with project progress and evaluating the project outcomes.

• Provide detailed design, and design review in consultation with Manager, across the whole security infrastructure at the University.

• Manage individual/mini projects and/or enhancements (security related) to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of digital content that meets the quality standards initially agreed. This includes producing and maintaining detailed project documentation, keeping all key stakeholders up to date with project progress and evaluating the project outcomes.

• Lead and drive the research into technology business solutions and support the implementation and/or review of systems and technology that support the RMIT Vietnam business, from security perspectives.

• Analyse, troubleshoot and provide systems business solutions to security related issues, with a view to increasing efficiency of corporate system infrastructure.

• Lead by example, coaching and mentoring other security team members to support both personal growth and career progression.

• As an IT team member, contribute to develop and/or enhance security policies, procedures and to support ‘best practice”.

• Remain up to date with all industry developments relating to security technologies (On Premises & Cloud).

• Develop, lead and work on special and cross-functional projects or activities as requested by Line Manager. 

• Provide expert advice to internal ICT stakeholders with regards to standards and practices and serve as a resource for the resolution of complex system related questions.

Key selection criteria

• At least 5 years of experience in a Security Engineering related position, with certificate in CCNP Security, Palo Alto PCNSE, CompTIA Security Plus (or equivalent).

• Knowledge expert of all technical aspects relating to of Security technologies, including but not limited to Cloud Security (AWS, Azure), Firewall, SIEM, Network Access Control, Privilege Access Management, Servers Hardening, Vulnerability Management and Remediation for Windows & Linux Operating Systems, Security Monitoring for the whole RMIT IT Infrastructure.

• Extensive experience on Security with Cloud Computing technologies: AWS, Azure. Certified AWS or Azure on Security Track is desirable.

• Experience within a Directory Service stack. (Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, GPO, AD Federation, SAML, ADFS, Multi Factor, Azure AD connect).

• Intensive Experience on securing the Virtualization environment: VMware, Hyper-V.

• Experience in taking briefs on and creating logical and physical design documents.

• Experience with Multi-vendor hardware and software solutions.

• Experience of managing security projects with milestones, risk evaluation estimates and implementing operational design documents.

• Excellent experience of automation for security monitoring, building / development of security policies / processes / procedures / standards / guidelines.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team and with ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders.

• Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills with a proven record of flexible approach to work.

• Proven record of problem solving and analytical skills to deliver quality outcomes.

• A mature and agile approach to working with stakeholders, with excellent verbal and written communication skills (strong English proficiency skills).

• Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position and RMIT Values.

English Proficiency

• The minimum requirement is IELTS with a score of at least 6.5 or 170 in Linguaskills.
