- Base Salary HE08 $117,116 - $132,079 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
The School of Psychology and Brain and Mind Centre are welcoming applications for a Senior Research Scientist in Neurodevelopmental Disorders to join the Translational Psychopharmacology Team . Professor Michael Bowen is one of the leaders of the Translational Psychopharmacology team, which comprises of over ~30 researchers spanning multiple Faculties and Schools, focused on bridging translational divides for disorders of the brain and mind to facilitate the discovery and development of novel treatments. The team has a rich network of national and international collaborations and partnerships that span industry, governments, and academia. The office and lab space is located at the Brain and Mind Centre at the University of Sydney where there are dedicated facilities for preclinical disease modelling, biological sample processing and analysis, microscopy, and imaging. The team uses gold-standard preclinical models, cutting edge neuroscience techniques, and machine learning to discover and develop novel pharmacological treatments for disorders of the brain and mind.
The successful applicant will manage research initiatives, aligning projects with strategic objectives. They will also lead research funding campaigns, champion a commitment to research excellence, and comprehensive data analysis endeavours. They lead stakeholder engagement initiatives and ensure seamless administrative operations.
This role will have you focusing on exploring neurodevelopmental disorders using rodent models, contributing significantly to our understanding of these conditions and potential therapeutic approaches.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- manage and direct comprehensive research initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and optimised outcomes
- direct research funding endeavours, driving grant application success and funding diversification
- cultivate a culture of research excellence, ensuring the team is empowered with the latest knowledge and support
- oversee data analytics and interpretation, ensuring robust insights that inform operational decisions
- lead stakeholder engagement strategies, forging impactful alliances that enhance research reputation and reach
- ensure seamless administrative operations, driving efficiency in research documentation, publication, and compliance
- engage and build strong relationships with stakeholders, facilitating discussion to address concerns and gather feedback, ensuring alignment with work area goals
- undertakes ad-hoc projects and other activities as required.
About you

- a PhD in a relevant field of life science: e.g. Neuroscience, Animal Behaviour, Pharmacology
- expertise in animal behaviour studies, with an emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders
- demonstrated experience in non-clinical pharmacology, particularly using rodent models
- proficiency in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing
- excellent communication and teamwork skills.
