About the Role

This role offers the chance to spearhead research across diverse industry applications such as Digital Health, Industry 4.0, and Smart Cities. The Senior Research Fellow at Swinburne Universitys Digital Innovation Lab, part of the School of Science, Computing, and Engineering Technologies, collaborates closely with colleagues across departments, especially the Factory of the Future. This pivotal role involves leading industry-funded R&D projects, developing innovative proof-of-concept solutions, securing external industry funding through grant writing, and supervising PhD, Masters, and Bachelors capstone/internship projects.

The successful candidate will spearhead the translation of research findings into practical solutions for industry projects, focusing on Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Vision, and Intelligent Robotics. Essential to the role is the capability to comprehend and effectively address the business requirements of industry partners, integrating these needs into the development of proof-of-concept technical solutions. Working within a collaborative team of multidisciplinary scientists, engineers, and subject matter experts is a fundamental aspect of this position.

About You 
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • More than 4 years of demonstrable experience working on industry-funded R&D projects.
  • A track record of leading/co-leading research translation outcomes in one or more of the following domains - Smart Cities, Transportation, Advanced Manufacturing, Digital Health, and Supply Chain.
  • A strong research track record in areas such as Internet of Things, Computer Vision, Intelligent Robotics
  • Deep knowledge of software programming languages and open-source libraries including the following (and not limited to): C/C++, BASH, Python, ROS framework, OpenCV, Point Cloud Library (PLC).
  • Demonstrated experience/familiarity with software development on IoT devices (e.g. Arduino, raspberry PI., NVIDIA Jetson, etc.) and knowledge of GNU/Linux systems
  • Proven experience in conceptualising, developing and implementing complete R&D proof-of-concept technology solutions
  • A strong research track record in areas such as Internet of Things, Computer Vision, Intelligent Robotics

Qualifications

  • Doctoral qualification in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Internet of Things, or a related computing intensive field
